Biography of Jim Tyhurst

Jim Tyhurst, Ph.D. is a consultant who has been developing enterprise applications in Java for the past 7 years with an additional 14 years of software engineering experience before that. He has been the technical lead for numerous projects, designing n-tier business applications and developing object-oriented application frameworks. Many of these projects have included some aspect of enterprise application integration. As a Sun Certified Programmer for the Java 2 Platform and an experienced J2EE architect, he has coached developers to use best practices for Java design and coding.

In addition to consulting full-time, Jim has taught undergraduate information technology courses through the University of Phoenix. Jim holds a Ph.D. in Linguistics from UCLA, where he received a W. M. Keck Research Grant for his work on computational models of semantic representations for English. He has presented papers regarding computational issues in manufacturing, health care, and natural language processing.
